LinkedIn Expands Free Verification Feature to 16 New Countries

Microsoft’s LinkedIn has announced the expansion of its free verification feature, provided through services like Persona, to 16 additional countries. This move aims to increase trust and authenticity on the platform, with a goal of verifying 100 million people by 2025.

The countries set to receive support for ID verification by Persona include Cambodia, Costa Rica, Fiji, Grenada, Honduras, Hong Kong, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Venezuela.Currently, over 30 million LinkedIn users have some form of verification linked to their profiles. This verification helps users showcase their authenticity, fostering trust and creating more opportunities.

Benefits of having a verified profile on LinkedIn include a 60 percent increase in profile views, 50 percent more comments and reactions on posts, and a 30 percent rise in connection requests. Verified information on profiles can include the user’s current employer or educational background.

To initiate the verification process through Persona, users can navigate to their LinkedIn profile, select “About this profile” under the “More” section, and click “Verify Now.” This will prompt users to complete Persona’s verification process within the LinkedIn app, which requires a government-issued passport. Successful verification matches the passport information with the user’s LinkedIn profile.

While passport information remains private and is not displayed on the LinkedIn profile, the issuing country may be visible. For users wishing to remove their ID verification, LinkedIn provides simple steps: navigate to the “Me” tab, click on “Settings & Privacy,” go to “Verifications” under “Account preferences,” and confirm deletion.
